Fishing For Deals 11/13/15

Here is the weekly post in the segment "Fishing For Deals." In each post I list 4 items that are fun finds from both online shops, or regular shops I visit. These items are not from AG or any 18 inch doll companies, but are regular objects that double as something for your dolly at a good price.

Dollar Tree Plush Sports Balls
Price: $1 each
Link to Website
If your doll house needs to be spiced up for your sports loving dolly, than these plush sports balls are the thing for you! Not only will they look great just for decoration around the room, but also can be used as pillows on a doll bed.

Dollar Tree Mini Trophy Party Favors
Price: $1 for four
Available in Stores Only
Keeping up with the sports theme are these mini trophies. I have seen these in stores countless times, and can tell you that they are the perfect size for American Girl Dolls. These could work as decoration in a doll room, or even in a stop motion about winning a game.

Expressions Lip Gloss Set, Ice Cream Sundae

Amazon Ice Cream Sundae Lip Gloss Set
Price: $5.59 for five (Note: Sometimes Amazon Prices Change)
Link to Website
Many lip glosses are made to look like mini versions of food favorites. In this case, the lip gloss looks like ice cream sundaes that happen to be the same size as American Girl Doll food. We all know that American Girl Doll Food can be expensive, and even Etsy food can be pricey too. But this lip gloss set will give you a lot of bang for your buck as not only food for you doll, but also lip gloss for you!

Ganz Lil'Kinz Terrier Plush, White, 6.5"
Amazon Ganz Lil'Kinz Terrier Plush
Price: $3.86 each (Note: Sometimes Amazon Prices Change)
Link to Website
Not everyone wants to cash out $30 for an American Girl Doll pet. The great alternative are Lil' Kinz pets made by the company Webkinz. These stuffed animals are basically smaller versions of the full size Webkinz; hence the name "Lil'Kinz." You can purchase many different types of animals that are Lil' Kinz such as dogs, cats, fish, lions, etc. I actually own the dog shown in the picture above and can tell you that it is the perfect size to be a pet for your doll, and it is also very realistic. I recommend these plushies 100%.

Maryellen Book Plots

On Amazon, the Maryellen Book Series is up, and can be previewed. Amazon gives readers' the plot of each book, and the opportunity to look inside and read some of the pages. These pages give the answers to the many questions and theories eager fans have been thinking about for the past few months.

Plot of the One and Only (From Back of Book)

"Maryellen wants to stand out, but with five brothers and sisters, it's not so easy. Giving herself a haircut doesn't go quite the way she expectsand when she draws a cartoon of her teacher on the first day of fourth grade, she draws more attention than she wants! At least her drawing skills help her make an interesting new friend. Together they might be able to win the geography beebut only if Maryellen can find a way to make her old friends overcome their prejudice. The One and Only, the first volume of the Maryellen's stories about growing up in the 1950s, tells how Maryellen learns to standout and be her own person."

Taking Off: A Maryellen Classic 2
                By Valerie Tripp

Plot of Taking Off (From Back of Book)

"Maryellen has big plans for her birthday, and she's glad when her old pal Davy shows up to help. If only Wayne the Pain would buzz offbut he's stuck to Davy like glue. Maybe her sister Joan was right when she said girls can't be friends with boys in fourth grade. Then, on a family vacation, Maryellen finds out that Joan's not so sure about her own plans. One thing's clear: If Maryellen's going to invent a flying machine, become famous, and get Joan's wedding off the ground, she'll need all the helpand all the friendsshe can get. In Taking Off, the second volume of Maryellen's classic stories about growing up in the 1950s, Maryellen's hopes, dreams, and ambitions soarand she's determined that nothing will stop her from flying high."

"Samantha's Bicycling Outfit" Review

Here is my review of the American Girl outfit, "Samantha's Bicycling Outfit." I received this set for Christmas, and really enjoy the details included within each piece of the set. The colors are just adorable!

The white eyelet blouse is very simple, yet elegant. The long sleeves have a puffy shoulder, giving a cute and young look. I especially love the blue ribbon on the neckline since it adds a nice pop of color to the shirt. Below the neckline are multiple flowers and ribbon designs sewn ranging from blue colors to pinks and greens. The embroidery is just absolutely gorgeous and elegant, and really is nice quality. At the bottom of the shirt is blue ribbon stretching from both sides, and gathered fabric.

The bloomers are a mix of gray and blue and have a checkered print throughout. The bloomers match the shirt well since the shirt has the blue ribbon. The bloomers definitely add a sense of pattern and difference.

The set also comes with black gaiters with pink buttons. The buttons do not button, but are merely just for decoration. If you did not know this, the gaiters are NOT the footwear themselves, but go over the boots or shoes which do not come with the set. To get the gaiters over the footwear, there is Velcro in the back.

A bubblegum pink bow is included too. The bow has a white elastic in the back to put into your doll's hair.

The hat is made of straw and has a beige color. Around the hat is a blue ribbon which I think, really completes the hat since it gives more detail and a splash of color so that the hat isn't too drab.

~

Overall, I love this outfit because it has so many beautiful colors that really match well with one another. The hat is too cute, and the shirt is a favorite of mine. I definitely will use this set A LOT!

My Overall Rating (1 worst - 5 best)

June BeForever Spotlight on Julie (Part 1)

American Girl has announced that the June BeForever Spotlight is on the 1974 Historical doll, "Julie Albright." Since Julie is showcased this month, I am going to share an insight from her time period. Below is information and pictures from when she grew up to increase your knowledge on the culture during the 70's.

Mood Rings
Mood Rings are rings you can wear that "change color depending on what mood you are in". Scientifically, they change color based upon the temperature of your body. In the 1970's Mood Rings were a huge fad, and many kids wore them.

Lava Lamps
Lava Lamps are glass "containers" filled with blobs of colorful wax, and liquid. The lava lamp must be plugged in, so then the wax will rise up towards the top of the container, and fall near the bottom.

Pet Rock
One of the more weird fads was the pet rock. The pet rock came with an instruction booklet, a box with breathing holes, and even nest material for the habitat. The pet rock fad was so popular, that the creator became a millionaire.

Rock'em Sock'em Robots
A popular game from the 70's are the Rock'em Sock'em Robots. Using a joystick, opponents can "fight" one another until the head of the other robot pops off.

Barbie Beauty Center
Girls could curl their barbie's hair or apply makeup to the "Barbie Beauty Center" head.

My mom had a Timey Tell Doll, which helps teach time to young children.

Creepy Crawlers
Kids can create gross bugs by filling trays with the special goo, and then placing the tray into the oven to create solid bugs.

Roller Skates
Kids would put on these metal roller skates after they had on their sneakers. A leather strap in the back secured the feet so they wouldn't pop out.

Banana Seat Bikes
70's kids would ride their banana seat bikes almost everywhere. With a long seat and handles, these bikes were more comfortable than today's bikes, and super colorful.

Big Wheel
Ride on a plastic "vehicle" with 3 wheels, including 1 HUGE wheel. Giving this bike the name, "Big Wheels."
