Dollar Tree Cupcake Candle Review

You may or may not know this, but I love Dollar Tree. I mean, the shop sells everything for a buck! Dollar Tree also has some cute items that are doll sized such as the cupcake candles I will be reviewing today.

These candles are sold for $1 each, and come nicely packaged in a plastic box that has a bow on top.
You can light these candles, but I am just using them for doll food. (Please note these are NOT edible)

This cupcake is chocolate with vanilla frosting, and then chocolate syrup on top. The wrapping paper is brown, which matches the overall chocolate theme nicely. I love the chocolate syrup on top because it looks so realistic! This cupcake is by far my favorite out of the two I bought since it looks so delicious!

Here is a closer view of the top of the cupcake. You can see the candle wick, so I am debating on whether or not to remove it. Possibly in the future I'll use this as an actual candle (if I have the heart to light it.)

Here is the second candle I bought. I am not sure what flavor the "cake" part is, but I know the top is half chocolate and half vanilla frosting. The cupcake top looks like one of those half moon cookies. The wrapping is possibly vanilla, but I am not sure exactly since it looks a bit on the orange brown side. Pumpkin?

You can see how the top of the cupcake has both vanilla and chocolate frosting. Though the dividing line is not perfectly straight, I am not complaining since this was only a buck.

Here is the actual "cupcake" with an American Girl Doll. The candle is a bit big, so it could be either a cake, sundae, or an awesomely huge cupcake for your doll. Doesn't the chocolate syrup look real?

Here is the other cupcake with an American Girl Doll. These cupcakes look really nice with the doll, and so real! The best part is that they are NOT plastic (unlike AG food), and they are super cheap.

These cupcakes were such a great purchase, and look great with the dolls. You could use them in a doll bakery, kitchen, diner, or whatever your want! Not to mention, these cupcakes also smell like chocolate!

My Overall Rating (1 worst - 5 best)

Fishing For Deals 5/30/15

Here is the weekly post in the segment "Fishing For Deals." In each post I list 4 items that are fun finds from both online shops, or regular shops I visit. These items are not from AG or any 18 inch doll companies, but are regular objects that double as something for your dolly at a good price.

Dollar Tree Mini Composition Notebooks
Price: $3 for a pack of 3
Link to Website
Does your doll love to write? Or maybe lost their notebook? Well the Dollar Store has packs of three mini composition notebooks that are perfect size for AG dolls to use, and they're only a buck!

Dollar Tree Coin Purses
Price: $1 each
Link to Website
These fun little coin purses come in cute patterns, that are super colorful. These are coin purse sized for humans, but for dolls they are the perfect purse!

Dollar Tree Freezable Gel Packs
Price: $1 each
Link to Website
When I saw these Freezable Gel Packs on the dollar tree website, I could not believe how cute they were. Since Summer is almost here, these gel packs work as a pillow for your AG doll, or even a seat cushion. They'll add a pop of color and a lot of fruitiness!

Dollar Tree Water Bottles with Snack Storage
Price: $1 each
Link to Website
These water bottles look so much like water coolers. The snack storage part is great since it gives the "cooler" a flat base, and it makes it look taller. Not to mention, these bright colors can add a ton of cheer to an AG room. I think any AG doll would love these "coolers," especially on hot days!

This set looks like something Sandy would wear in the movie, "Grease." The violet color is so darling, and the peter pan collar is very 50's. Not to mention this set is great to mix and match!

How to Save Up for AG items

American Girl has some adorable outfits, dolls, and accessories. Unfortunately, to get that "Caroline" doll or pajamas there is a pretty big price tag. So, to help save up for those expensive items I created a list of ways to save money.

  • Create jewelry or crafts and sell them
  • Make a lemonade stand on a warm day and sell some lemonade
  • Do chores around the house or yard
  • If you are old enough, babysit neighbors or family.
  • Have a garage sale and sell all of your old toys
  • Walk neighborhood pets or pet sit them
  • Tutor other people
  • Draw pictures and sell them
  • Possibly get money from parents for getting good grades or doing great in sports
  • Sew doll items and sell them on Etsy
Doing these things can even help convince your family to let you buy some items since you'd be responsible.

Fishing For Deals 5/22/15

Today is the first post in a new segment called, "Fishing For Deals." In each post I will list 4 items that are fun finds from both online shops, or regular shops I visit. These items are not from AG or any 18 inch doll companies, but are regular objects that double as something for your dolly at a good price. Expect me to post this segment at least once a week.

Dollar Tree Coffee Candle
Price: $1 each
Link to website
What is cuter than a little mug for your doll? This would look great in a kitchen, or even Grace's bakery. If you dolly isn't so into coffee, you could paint the mug over and have it hold either tea or hot chocolate.

Dollar Tree Colorful Plastic Spray Bottle
Price: $1 each
Link to website
When styling your doll's hair, a spray bottle is a necessity. The water sprayed untangles the hair, which makes it easier for styling. Plus, these spray bottles are cheap and colorful!

Amazon Bamboo 4 Tier Organizer
Price: $15.99 each
Link to Website
This fun little organizer has many possibilities for use. It could be used as a bureau for the dolls,
or a bed side table. Maybe even cabinets for a desk or kitchen.

Dollar Tree Rubber Beach Ball
Price: $1 each
Link to Website
Summer is right around the corner, so beach days are on the way. This mini beach ball is perfect for dolls since it doesn't need to be inflated, but still looks like a beach ball.

AG Truly Me Released!

American Girl has released the "Truly Me" collection which takes the place of the old "MyAg."
The items are available both online on the AG website, and in stores.

Here are some pictures of the collection as well as my opinions....

Lilac Dress & Accessories
Price: $28
I think that the tutu is very cute, but very girly. I think AG is marketing their products
to eight year old's and forgetting about older collectors and kids. The headband is also very
nice and would look great with other outfits. I hate the jacket though. I just think that it doesn't match the set, and seems so crafty. Like a five year old glued stickers to fabric.

Flamingo Beach Dress
Price: $28
It is official. I am in love with this flamingo dress! This dress is so unique and looks perfect for summer. And the sandals? The peach is so delicate and matches the bracelet so well.

Shimmer Doodle Outfit
Price: $28
I am beginning to sense a theme here that AG is charging $28 for an outfit. The only thing I like in this set is the T-shirt, which I still am not a huge fan about. The skirt seems like an exercise skirt due to the knot, and the boots are too slouchy for me.

Seaside Fun Outfit
Price: $30
The sandals are too cute, and remind me of something Kanani would wear. The shorts are OK, but a plain white would have been better. I am not crazy about the sweatshirt either. Personally, if AG made a tank top instead with that same orange striped pattern, the outfit would be cuter. Or if the set had a sea horse T-shirt.

"Truly Me" Doll
Price: $115
Ooh La La! This doll is so beautiful! I love the crystal blue eyes and the short blonde hair!
I would love to get her, except I already have Elisabeth so I'll pass.

"Truly Me" Doll
Price: $115
This doll is very unique, and reminds me of Sonali. The eye and hair color are also an interesting choice. I think I have to see this doll in person before I decide whether or not I like her.

"Truly Me" Doll
Price: $115
This doll is super cute! She reminds me of past Girl of the Year Jess. The only difference is that her eyes are lighter.

No Image
"Beach Blanket Set"
Price: $24
The color scheme is too cute! I think that this set has some cute items, but is not worth $24.

No Image
"Beach Hammock Set"
Price: $58
The color scheme is once again, too cute! The light blue, pink, and coral really suite one another and add a fun touch. The magazine and pillow are also useful, but the visor seems really random.

Out of all the items, here are the ones I may buy....

  • Flamingo Beach Dress
